Dili Tor, on Melologuo, moved off smartly from the rise of the barrier, and the Advance mare showed the way out. of the straight to Turna. Going round the back Brown Trout made a forward move, with Golden Age coming fast. At the entrain e to the straight the held closed up, and when well in the running C. Emmerson brought Otahu along with a run and landed the stake by a length, lady Volley was half a length in front of Turna. Then followed Brown Trout and Scots Fusilier, with the others hunched a short distance back. Deploy and To 1\ aim rang: were the smartest away in the Flying Handicap, and they wore in front all. the. way, the

former winning easily by a length, hull Kabo a head away third. Erin wi:*fourth and Merry Frank fifth. The big field of nineteen in theMaidoi Handicap caused some delay at tho start. IV. Young, ou Ada.ro, anticipated tin hso of the barrier, • and getting hh mount smartly away, let throughout, winning nicely by a head from Our Queen, who came fast over the last portion. Abercoed was close up third, with tho others strung out over a considerable distance. Invicta lost his rider during the race. Tho winner paid a bigdividend. Tho start of tho President’s Handicap was marred by the incident already referred to. F. Meagher, who rode Floater, anticipated tho rise of the barrier, and 'as Mr Cameron had uttered the word

K ‘Go,” Floater, who was on tho inside '.position, moved quickly, with the result that tho. tapes got entangled with him and Countermine, and several others suffered. Fquitas cleared away from the field, closely followed by Projectile. At one stage the former was a long way in front, but entering the straight she appeared to bosteadied, and Projectile, coming on fast, won by a length, with Voetgang a similar distance away third. The others wore all well beaten. The stewards hold an inquiry into the running of Equitas. After taking evidence, tho judge’s verdict was not disturbed. St. Pees and Piaj-ewanni began smartly in the Stewards’ Hack Handicap and l<d into the straight, but T. Pritchard then brought Rongomau with a splendid run and the gelding won by a neck from St. Hoes, with Ahuapai two lengths away third, the next to finish being Cornelian, Fangasse and Parewanui, in that order. P. Gilchrist, a rider attached to F. Garment's Lovin'stable, rode a very patient race on St. Bees and only missed first place by a small margin. Waioum, the big upstanding fullbrother to Motoa, jumped of! at the start of the First Hack Hurdle Pace, and passing the stand tho first time the Conqueror gelding led from Inveran and Boyne Water. Going round the bade Mr Mcsscna’s promising hurdler was still in front, and it was only a question of clearing the hurdles for* him to win. This he managed to do, winning by half a length from Gaelic, who came fast over the last two furlongs- Strathmoira was close up t third, Fond Memory fourth and Salopian fifth. Tills was Mr Mossena’e first win for a long time, and the Foxton owner-trainer was warmly congratulated. Ebonite and Foreshot were the popular fancies for the Welter Hack Handicap, bub they failed to show up prominently. The start, a perfect one, saw Emma, ridden by R, Hatch, striding away to the /front, but by the time the entrance to the straight was reached the locally-owned mare drifted to the rear. Young was riding a patient race on Kina, and getting the measure of his opponents a furlong from tlie winning post, the Feilding horseman landed his mount a comfortable winner by two lengths from ' St. Bees, who came fast over the last portion, beating Puketotara by half a length for' second place. Brown Trout was close up fourth, Kopano and Bonnie Boy being the next to finish in the order named. Tho winner returned his supporters a substantia] dividend. The meeting will conclude to-day. In addition to tho ordinary mail trains special trains will leave tho Thorndon station at 7.10 and 8.20, returning at the close' of the day's racing.
