BBOM OtTB OWN COEEBSPONDENT. CARTERTON, September 22. Mr A. Matthews, a. prominent settler of tho Lower Valley, has agreed to give the necessary land for a site for Coronation swimming batss in Peathcrston. The friends of Mrs W. Fisher, of Carterton, will be sorry to hear that she is at present seriously ill. A very successful'Catholic concert was held at Peathcrston last night, a large audience thoroughly enjoying a first-lass programme. _ '
The Wairarapa howling centre met at Carterton last night, Mr O. Pragnell in the chair. It was decided to procure a shield for tho centre for annual competition between the affiliated clubs, and, with tho donor’s sanction, to play for tho Booth cup in the B section. Mr Indcr was elected president; and Mr A. Phillpotts secretary. Tho Masterton Hibernians and tho Carterton Druids meet here on Monday evening next in a match at cards. Both lodges have run tho card _ tournaments this season in their respective towns. The painting and decorating of tho Buchanan Home at Grcytown is to cost dCIOIO. Messrs Edlin and Rashleigh, of Eketahuna, have secured tho contract.
