FIVE-MILE TEST RACE
WELLINGTON AND BROOKLYN HARRIERS. A five-mile harriers’ test race was held at Miramar on Saturday to determine who should represent Wellington at the forthcoming cross-country championship to ho held at Auckland. The following fourteen competitors faced the starter: —C. Murray, G. Bristow, AV. Pointon. F. Byrne, F. Ilodson, V. J. Byrne, F. Rowberry, AV. Press, P. .T. Fitzgerald, A. Cook, AV. Bennett, F. Pinckney, F. AVilton, and C. Rowborry. C. Rdwberry and AVllton made the pace for tho greater part of tho distance, and the men arrived homo in tho following order: C. Rowberry (Wellington), 26min 50sec; F. Rowberry (AVollington), 27min; Cook (Brooklyn), 27min ssoc; V. Byrne (Brooklyn), 27min 13soc; P. AVilton (Wellington), 27min 23seo; F. Byrne (Brooklyn), 2T7min (Msec; AV. Press (Wellington), 37min Sfisec; Hodson (Brooklyn), 27min 57sec; Murray (Brooklyn)_ 2Smin 42sec; Bennett fWollington), 28min 45scc.
The following team will represent the 'Wellington Contro of the N.Z.AA.A. in tho Now Zealand cross-country championship, to bo decided at Auckland on Saturday next F. Rowborry (Wellington). 0. OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIP PEEB3 ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, August GThe Otago cross-country championship was decided yesterday, the first six places being filled by the following in tho order named ;—Beatson, Chambers, Frew, Fry, Thompson, and Notman. Tho first five wore subsequently selected to represent Otago in tho Now Zealand cross-country championship, with. Notman as emergency, but Frew has notified that ho is unable to mako tho trip.
