DEATH BY STRANGULATION. DUNEDIN, August 5. At tho inquest on Thomas Burgees, aged -62 years, who was . found 1 leaning w over a fence, dead, a verdict was'roturued that death was duo-to strangulation, , deceased’s nock having been cudght , in I '" : the top of the fence wnilst ho was seixed with a'fit of cramp. ACTION FOR RENT SUCCEEDS, AUCKLAND, August .1.
The tenants of tho Savoy Club, Queen street, were defendants in a claim for ,i-70 rent heard..by Mr Kettle, S.M. Tha case arose out of the action of the health authorities, who ordered, tin. premises to bo closed ,on tho,: ground, of insanitation, and to, bo , made rat-proof. Business was hot resumed. The premises were occupied'under a lease, and ' the plaintiffs claimed seven . weeks’- rent.' Counsel, for the defence ■ contended tiiai where the statute compelled a breach of contract tho parties wbro i discharged: from further performance.
