TRAMWAY APPEAL CASE.
rasas association. N OHEXSTOHTTECH, July 31.' The recently-constituted Tramway Appeal Board met for tho first time in Christchurch this morning in the Magistrate's .Mr H. W. Bishop, S.iL, presided, and with him were Mr Frank Tftorupson (general manager of th'* 'irsuuwav Board) and Mr James Young (secretary of the Tramway Employees* 'Onion.'). Mr T. G. Busmen appeared for the Tramway Board, and Mr W. J< Hunter for the appellants. An appeal was made by Joseph Bertram Graves, a motorman, against his dismissal on June 10th, as the result of a "head-on" collision between a enr driven by him and a, sprinkler on the Eiccarton line on May 27th. The grounds of the appeal were that no blame was attachable to appellant because his car had the right-of-way; the tail was greasy; his view was obstructed by a cart; and he had obeyed the regulations regarding accidents by applying first and second emergency stops, with sand. There was no signalling apparatus or man to warn him of the presence of tho sprinkler, 83 was usual on race days. After hearing evidence, the proceedings were adjourned till to-morrow.
