Tho following was tho result of the GOODWOOD OHP, A sweepstake ot 20 sovs each, with 1000 sovs added; second horse 200 sovs and third 100 sovs from the stake. For throe-year-olds and upwards. Special weights, with penalties and allowances. Two miles and a half. Lord St. David's b' or hr c Killbroney, ' by The Wag—lnnismakio, 4yrs 1 Lord Oadogan's b f- Martingale IT., by Martagon—Simoon, 3yra 2 P. Nelkc’s b m Yellow Slave, by St. Serf—Oroceran, 4yrS* 3 Tho winner is a good colt, but is' a very slow beginner, a fact which has lost him several good races, but in tho Cup ho had of course plenty of time to make up his gronnd. Last season he filled second position in tho Irish Derby and tho Onrragh Cesarowitch. This season he won tho Great Metropolitan Stakes, and last month was just beaten' out of a place in the Ascot Stakes, of 1000 sovs. owing to having been shut in after losing several lengths at tho start. Martingale H, who filled second position, was the heroine of a sensational victory jnst prior to the mail leaving England. This was in the Ascot Gold Vase, of I0K) sovs, run over a distance of two miles. Eoyal Tender (third iu the Derby) and Mushroom (winner of the City and Suburban) .were both backed down to a. very short price indeed, while Lord Cadegau’s filly was at forelorn odds. She won quite comfortably, the result being a huge turn-up for the ring.. Evidently the filly is a grout stayer. Yellow Slave has boon a fairly consistent performer, winning among other races tho Newmarket Oaks, the St. George Stakes at Liverpool, and tho, Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster. Last month she started in the Ascot Gold Cup (won hy Willonyx). but could only got fifth.
