THE LATE HON. W. C. SMITH
Tho Acting-Prime Minister submitted a motion similar to that passed by the Legislative Council in connection with the lato Hon. \V r . C. Smith, AI.L.C. Sir James Carroll said that all who had met the deceased legislator would realise that tho country had sustained a very scrims loss in his death. Ho was a publicspirited man, a painstaking, diligent legislator, and a friend of the struggling settlers whom he represented. The motion was submitted with great regret. The loader of the Opposition, Mr W. F. Massey, seconded the motion, and spoke sympathetically of the work of the deceased, both as a member of the House and of the Legislative Council. The motion was carried after several members had spoken to it. Tho House adjourned until 2.30 this afternoon as a mark of respCct to the memory of the deceased.
