COMPULSORY TRAINING
HOSTILE MOVEMENT IN CHRISTCHURCH. ms ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. A movement has been inaugurated herfc under the title of “The National Peace and Anti-Militarist Council of New Zealand,” to organise these who are protesting against the compulsory clauses of tho Defence Act, and to take united action in an effort tor have the clauses repealed. An indignation meeting is being arranged for in Christchurch. A petition praying for the repeal of the compulsory training clauses will be circulated throughout the Dominion, and candidates for the forthcoming election will be asked to pledge themselves in tho interests of the movement. Committees under the direction of tho new council will, it is officially annaunced, arrange for legal advice and assistance for any who may be prose* cuW under the provisions of the Act, and will give information regarding the interpretation of certain clauses of the Act.
