RESIDENT S.M. WANTED.

PRESS APSopTATinN. MASTERTON, July 14. Some time past dissatisfaction was expressed at the fact that there was no resident magistrate here. The other day, in Carterton, a deputation brought tho matter before the Hon. T. Mackenzie, who promised to- look into the matter, and said that, as a general rule, a man should reside where he earned his living. Public opinion very strongly favours the compulsory residence bee of a magistrate. At present the magistrate (Mr Reid) lives in Wellington, but in fairness to him it must be said that the experience of local solicitors is that he keens his lists clearer of coses than most of his predecessors, in spite of the fact, that the work has largely increased, and cases are never piled up.
