Wrestling at the Stadium
The wrestling bout between A. Robertson and Joe Gardiner, which is to take place at the Stadium on Wednesday, is causing a good deal of interest. When, the pair last met at Stratford Robertson proved the winner, but Gardiner stated that ho was unwell and. consequently unable to do himself justice. lor the oominc match he has been training hard, and expects to civ© the Stratford champion a good go. Robertson is a veiy fin© wrestler indeed, and his supporters
will not hear of his defeat. Gardiner, whose picture appears above, was bom j in London in December,* 18SC, and when sixteen went into training under Peter : Gotz for throe months. . Two months I later h© defeated three light-weights in I one evening at the Marylebone Athletic j Club, and then followed a long series of successful matches in England and ’on the Continent. He came to New Zealand in 1907, and has won a number of matches against well-known wrestlers.
