THE DISABLED TAKAPUNA.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN. July 13. The Coriuna, .with the disabled Takapuna in tow, diopped anchor at 10.3 U last night off Pori Chalmers wharves. The tew, which was done at a speed of 9i to Oil knots per hour, was uneventful. Connected by a wire tewing hawser, supplemented by a spring consisting of twenty-five fathoms of anchor cable, both steamers left Wellington wharf at 8.20 a an. on Tuesday. The Takapuna was under her own steam* but her propeller had only one whole blade, and that was cracked. The other blades, as the result of her bumping at Westport, wore only fractions of their original size. Tho rudder shank is snapped off about 6in below the bottom of the trunkway, and steeling in the usuaJ way was out of the question.. Wires were attached above the waterline to the afterpart of tho rudder blade, .and led through blocks on tho end of spare protruding from either side of the vessel, and thence connected to the steam sbwvnsr gear enabling the vessel to be steered by wheel in the usual way. The repairs will probablv include new stern frame.
