RECREATION GROUSES
'To the Editor “N.Z. Times.") Sir,—l have forwarded a cuvj of tho attached letter to all the local sports bodies. It is the outcome of a meeting of Brooklyn and city residents held last Tuesday evening. Will you be good enough to give the matter publicity it your columns?—l am, etc., f. ax. b. Fisiran. July 1-lth. [Enclosure.] Wellington, July 12th, 1911. Dear Sir, Notwithstanding the liberality oi the Alumcipat Corporation iu the past there is still work to be done in the mutter of recreation grounds. The following amounts have been spent on tile grounds mentioned; —.110,073 upon Duppu street, X'12,831 upon Anderson Park, unu PSeSS upon KelDurno. But there is yet a portion -of the city for which nothing in this direction has been done. I refer to Brooklyn and tho area round about Upper Willis street, Wordsworth street and Mitchelltown. Close at hand, and lying between the Brooklyn, tram lint and tho Ohiro road is an area of town bolt which might, at a very reasonable eost, be converted into one of the finest, most convenient and sheltered playing grounds in tiie city. it is within easy reach on the one hand of that portion of tlio city which is most congested and of another portion. (Brooklyn) where the cost of overcoming natural difficulties would bo enormous. The construction of such a playing ground would bo an immeasurable boon to those thousands oi children who attend tho Brooklyn, Mitchell town, Willis street, Ghuzneo street and Mount Coot schools. It would relievo tho , strain upon the Basin Reserve and would supply a very natural requirement to the 15,000 citizens who reside within the area of which the proposed ground would bo the centre. Wo want your assistance in this matter. We want an. influential deputation to wait upon the City Council and urge uixm that body the necessity for tne work. Will you appoint a representative to act with us upon our committee? Much as has been done, our recreation grounds are inadequate, and tho council is uuablo to overcome the difficulty until it constructs more grounds. _ If you will pass a resolution approving the project and also appoint a delegate to represent you on our committee wo shall bo glad to have your valuable assistance. For tho committee, F. M. B. FISHER, Chairman.
