THE PARCEL POST
KEW REGULATIONS. Some new regulations dealing with tho conveyance of parcels by post were gazetted last night. In future soft fruit will not be accepted for transmission unless enclosed in liquid-tight tins, and securely packed. Senders of parcels to Australia and New Guinea will now be able to prepay the Customs and other charges ordinarily payable by the addressee. Certain conditions are imposed, one of which ensures a deposit on account of the charges at the rate of- Is for each 4s or fraction of 4s of the declared value of the parcel. The final settlement will take place when notification of the amount duo has been received from Australia or New Guinea. Unclaimed parcels originating in Australia are, in the absence of instructions from the sender, to be retained for four months from the date of the posting of the advice of non-delivery, and will then be returned through the Dead Letter Office io the State in which they so originated.
