COURSING
WELLINGTON METROPOLITAN CLUB'S MEETING. STRONG HARES AND GOOD SPORT. The Wellington Alotropolitan Coursing Club was compensated for their disappointment of the previous week hy gorging perfect weather for holding the Coronation Cup mooting on Saturday. The attendance of the public was, however, rather limited. Tho sport proved exceedingly good throughout. The hares were strong and well trained, and without exception they rail magnificently, there being hardly a kill all day, -or A. J. Parsons made his debut ms a judge, and acquitted himself remarkably well, none of his decisions being pp on to question. .Mr P. H. Donoghue again slipped very finely, sending tho dogs well away together. Indeed no fault could bo found with the all-round management of th© meeting, secretary J. JDoaoghno and the other officials all doing good work. With such stout running hares it was only to be expected that some fine trials should bo soon, and this proved to bo the case. Especially was this so in the finals. There wao a total absence of any “undocidods,” while only one* ‘‘no course” was run, this being caused by a third dog getting loose and spoiling the trial. In the final of the cup XCilfilem, who had won his other courses in fine tftyle, led Headlight by two lengths to a great hare and had two points the best of tho exchange© when puss reached the ©scapes. The deciding course of the Coronation Stakes proved a. very close thing. Rufus Dawes showed more paco than RaiTlcs and, had the haro gone to cover, he must have won. Puss kept out and luiirlos, working cleverly along tho escapes, had just enough in his favour to got the flag when tho liar© reached home. Tho final in the Supplementary was run in semi-darkness. Jviiiock Girl, who was partly unsighted, was led to the hare, but, once in, the bitch scored cleverly, winning in good style by a narrow margin. Results — EXHIBITION' CUF. C.
