LOWER HUTT BOROUGH ESTIMATES.

In the estimates for the Hutt Borough Council for the current year the estimated receipts in the general account aro given at £10,009, the chiei items being: Outstanding accounts, £249; arrears of rates, £320; Government subsidy£4oo; liceud.es, £245.; building permits, £o0; drainage, £25; other permits, £108; rents £9B; water supply (extraordinary), £10; refunds, £lo7; recreation grounds, £55; total, with sundries, £lßll. A general rate of 2Jd in the £ is estimated to produce £8193. The estimated debit balance at March 31st, 1912, is set down at £8424. The estimates for the engineering department total £6104 4s lid. The principal items include £2465 for street maintenance, bridges £195, fencing £BS, cleaning creeks sanitary depot £7OO, sewerage _ maintenance £l5O, dedication £370, water works £1024, water main extension Alioetown £IOO, fire brigade £35. In the town clerk’s department salaries will absorb £B-18 and other'wages £232, general office administration, ete,_ £SBB, advertising and stationery £75, contribution to Hospital and Charitable Aid Board £75, Infectious Diseases Hospital £750, redeeming Hutt road_ debentures £65, post office clock £33, library account transfer £IOO, bank interest and charges £SOO. The library receipts arc estimated at £2OO, and expenditure at £lB3. As the new valuations of the borough are not yet- available it is not known what amount of rates iu the £1 will require to be levied. HUTT RIYER BOARD ESTIMATE. Tho Hutt River Board has adopted the following estimates for the year-: In tho general account the receipts for tlie year are set down at £IB3B, the principal items being:—Rates £524, rents £1279, -sundries £35. The expenditure is estimated at £1215, maintenance and engineering being ■ responsible for £7OO, and tho balance (£575) to salaries, rent of offices, etc. This leaves a balance of £G23, but there was a bank overdraft of £419 at March 31st, 1011. At the end of tho

current year it is estimated that there will bo a surplus of £204. Tho amount required to meet interest on loans is £1933, but this is fully covered by rates. Of the £IO,OOO loan, £652 re* mained unexpended at March 31st last, and during the current year it is proposed to spend £2BB on works in the upper district, and £IOO on works in. tho lower district. . This is calculated to leave a balance of £244 at the end of the year.
