SOUTH-ISLAND BAND CONTEST
CHRISTCHURCH WANTS IT. PRESS ASSOCIATION. ■ CHRISTCHURCH, May 27. A deputation representing South Island Brass Bands' Association'waited on the Mayor (Mr T. E. Taylor., M.P.), relative to the band contest to .be held, in this city, in November next, and masked tor the Mayor’s sympathetic, interest in the contest, and also asked if ho- would use his influence to enlist the sympathy of the members of the City Council to ensure the success of the fixture. 1 The contest, would last about a week. The deputation wished the Mayor and. City Council to interest themselves in the mat.ter and call a meeting of the public, ar which a contest committee would be appointed; The Mayor expressed his own personal sympathy with tho proposal, and promised to bring the matter before the council at t its meeting on Monday evening. Ho believed that the council would give tho project its cordial, support, .and would endorse tho suggestion that au invitation be extended to the .association to hold Us contest in Christchurch.
