OPEEA HOUSE. “THE WHIP” SEASON. “The Whip” has fairly "oaugnt on.” The Opera House last night Hold another crowded audience, which, waa delighted with the stirring scenes enacted, particularly the race for the Guineas and the trailway smash, which age excellently stage-managed, and create intense interest. “The Whip" will bo repeated this evening. ENGLISH PIERROTS. A bright, humourous musical entertain-, ment was provided by the English Pierrots last evening at the OoronaUon Theatre m the Exhibition. The items, while mainly gay, were always refined, and the vacal Qualifications of the performers were well suited to the nature of the programme. The audience almost filled the spacious hall and was so appreciative that scarcely any number was not encored. Mr Kingsley Chapman,. who is gifted with a sweet-toned tenor voice of extensive range, gave two exquisite items— Sweet Early Violets 1 ’ and “I Did Not Know. Mr Les le Austin, who has an, agreeable baritone voice, mad© a decidedly good impression in “The Voice of the Storm and I Wonder if. Ever the Rose. Langley's merry contribution, The. Wedding in the Jungle,” and her effort! in the duets and quartette were d:atmctly pleasing. “Flv Away butterfly,' a dainty attv. by Miss Phyllis Pbilipeon teoprauo). was warmly applauded. Mr W. P. lup ner’s humorous songs ensured bis immediate popularity, as very droll 'in expression • and’* mannerism in his contributions and in the original flirtation Quartette with Mr Maynard Dakin ana Misses Philipson and Langley. • .Mr Maynard Dakin has the faculty of compelling laughter, as was proven on each occasion he sang. He was encored twice, and his parody on' "Sally In Our Alley” was responsible tor prolonged hilarity. Ihe. opening chorus, and concerted number “Arabella" were given in good stylo by the company. Mr Bob Thomas plaved all tho accompaniments faultlessly. The English Pierrots will appear every evening at 830 o’clock, and the programme will bo changed frequently during the season. , THEATEB EOYAL. . The Theatre ' Eoyal was numerously attended last evening, when Pullers vaudeville company again presented their current programme. Daly and O Bnen, the American expert dancers, were recalled twice for their unique act. Tho brilliant concertina playing by Mr Alexander Prince, champion of the world, was also heartily appreciated. The bill will be repeated this eveningHIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. The auditorium of His Majesty's Theatre was not lai'ge enough to accommodate the crowd which sought to' gain admission last evening, when the excellent programme was shown for the last fme. Picture lovers should find plenty to satiate their desire to-night, some exceptionally fine films being promised. The pictures are coming by the San Francisco mail to-day. Th© Vitagraph Companv are celebrated for the fine films which they bring out, but one of this firm’s productions, “Dr Cupid,” which is to bo exhibited this evening, is said to be the best that has vet . been received from this company. “Tho Pall of Troy,” which proved so popular this week, is, by tb© request of a very lartrc number of patrons, to be shown again this evening and for the succeedin'? nights this week. This Is an exceptionally beautiful picture, and opportunity should be taken to see it before the conclusion of tho programme. THE NEW THEATRE. A record attendance for a week day was experienced at the New Theatre, Manners street, yesterday. The principal moving picture Hems include, “Texas Ted’s Defence” (Bison 00. s exclusive). “Artificial Flower-making” (industrial). “Eobbv i? a Millionaire” (comedy drama), and “The Old Water Jar” (Vitagraph Co.’s). The programme will be shown for the last time to-day from 11 a/m. till 11 o'clock to-night. A complete change is announced for tomorrow. OLYMPIA SKATING RINK. Fullers’ Olympia Skating Rink enjoys continued popularity, as was evidenced by the crowded attendances yesterday. The rink Will be open for the usual sessions to-day. BARTON BROS.’ CIRCUS. Barton Bros.’ circus is tb open to-nieht for a short season on the site of the old tram sheds. Adelaide road. The organisation has rormtlv made a successful tour of the North Island. - Its includes seventy horses, and about two score -of performers.
