The engage-mout is announced of Mr "William H. G. Foster (Kai t.iekr-, King Country), second sou of Mr W. H. G. Foster, of Wanganui, to Miss .Amy 11. Amos, youngest daughter of Mr James Ames, City Valuer, Wellington. Miss B. Williams (England), who has been staying at Rotorua and Hawcra, lias returned to Wellington, and is staying at Miss Malcolm's. Mrs Douglas McLean (Napier) is on-a visit to Wellington, Mndamo Boenfvo, who bus been visiting Auckland, has returned to Wellington. Miss Lilian Turton, who has been tho guest of Mrs Elgar, is leaving to-morrow for tho Wadrarapa and Haw Ice’s Bay. Mr and Airs J. M. Muir have gone on a visit to Rotorua. Mr and Airs McGregor, of Grey town, left yesterday by motor for "Wanganui, where they will, bo present at tho races. Mns Deo (Nelson), who arrived yesterday, is staying at the Windsor. , Miss Speed, who has been on a holiday visit to Picton, returned to Wellington last evening. Mr.and Mrs Edward Barton are staying with Mrs John Barton, at Trenthnm. Miss M. Kobbell (Ohau) is visiting Wellington. Air and Mrs G. McKay, who have been spending a few days in Wellington, havo returned to Blenheim. Miss 51. Elder (Hastings) - passed through Wellington yesterday. and will spend a-few days at Waikanao before proceeding to Hastings. Miss Fookcs (Ashburton) passed through Wellington on her way to Rotorua. Miss Eva Monckton (Nen-stead, Featherston) is staying with her sister, Mrs Simmonds, at tho Hutt. , Miss Butt, who has been spending Imr holiday in Hawke's Bay, returned yesterday. Tho employees of H. Morris and 00., pave their first social in the New Century Hall, on Monday evening. About fifty couples attended, and an enjoyable evening was spent. Tho hall was decorated by tho employees. In connection with tho winter distribution of garments for the poor, carried out by the well-known Two-Garment Society, the committee wish it to be known that I anv contributions of half-worn clothes will be very acceptable. The work of the Two-Garment Society is already familiar to the citizens and has proved of great practical help. Each member makes two garments and those with tho contributions of other clothes. are distributed to tho charitable organisations of the city, such as the Homo for the Aged Needy, the Alexandra Home, tho Home of Compassion. Ohiro Home, tho Seamen’s Mission, Salvation Army, 'and many others. Tho distribution takes place next Friday at tho G.F.S. Lodge, Vivian street, and it is especially requested that all garments cither made or donated should bw sent in not later than between 11 and 12 o’clock on Friday. The Thursday "evenings” of tho Art Club are proving a great success this.winter, and afford a great deal of pleasurable anticipation to members and those friends who aro fortunate enough -to receive ■- invitations. An exhibition of photographic work is being organised by Mr Hislop for Juno 15th, and no doubt a pleasant and varied programme will be' added to the show of photographs, and thus enlarge the field of interest. A meeting of Our Girls’ Branch of tho Victoria League was held in, the rooms of the Pioneer Club on Monday evening, when a very interesting paper on George Elliot was read by Miss Longford, members afterwards reading extracts from, bar works. D'r Izard has offered a prize for the best essay on "Loyalty" for competition between members.
