' 1 The House of Commons passed a vote of <£lo,ooo for special allowances for the metropolitan police who did service in South Wale? during the recent strike. The Home .. Secretary, Mr ■ Winston Churchill, stated that it had not been expected* that - the local authority would contribute towards the ordinary pay of the police, but the Chief Constable,'Mr Lionel Lindsay, had. given a written promise to contribute an allowance. This promise had, however, been. repudiated by the Glamorganshire authorities, and the law officers were now considering the question of taking action in the matter.
