(By ‘’Eileen.'’) March 18. Miss Shackleford (Auckland) is the guest of Mrs Stan Clark (Durie Hill). Mrs SwanKcr (Koromiko road) has gone to Dunedin on a visit to her mother. Mrs and Miss Stevenson accompanied Mr Stevenson to Australia. They sailed from Auckland on Tuesday, and will be away about three weeks. * Miss Piper (’Wellington) is the guest of Mr and Mrs Allan, Jubilee Home. Tho very many friends of Miss Thomson, school teacher, are glad to see her home again. Miss Thomson underwent a critical operation at Auckland. A donation of two guinea*? was sent to the Orphanage by Miss Nina Meuli, sue having made a number of handy little articles, such as peg-bags, kettle-holders, etc., and sold them to her friends, and forwarded the money to the Orphanage committee, by whom it was gratefully accepted, , Another kindly act was done by Miss Kathleen Cohbe, who handed her ticket, which won the first-class trip to Rotorua and a week’s board, to the committee, who are arranging a Benefit for Mr Neville Thornton to Send him to the Hot hakes Both these young ladies are to be complimented on their kind acta. _ On Thursday afternoon a wedding took place at Christ Church, when Mr George Bleasol, of Ohara, was married to Miss Jessie Place, eldest daughter of Mr T. Place, of Jackson street. The ceremony was performed by tho vicar, the Rev. Jacob. Tho bride was given away by her father, and looked very winsome in an ivory satin charmeusc, with tunic edged with silk lace and cord, transparent tucked ninon yoke, and sleeves, the draped corsage finished with a spray of orange blossoms. She wore an embroidered veil and wreath of orange blossoms, and carried a bridal shower bouquet, and wore a ruby and diamond bracelet, tho gift of the bridegroom. She was attended by her sister. Miss Annio Place, and Miss N. Gerrie, thy former wearing a ■white Jap silk frock, with transparent net yoke ami sleeves, and large white silk straw hat trimmed with saxe bine silk and tiny blue and white flowers. Tho.latter yrore a pal© old rose charmouse, with elbow sleeves and yoke of Paris epot net, and large black chip straw hat, with white wings. They car, ried shower bouquets, and wore a gold bangle and a pearl and turquoise pendant, the gifts of tho bridegroom. Mr Eric Bleasel supported his brother as best man, and Mr Alf Place (brother of tho bride) was groomsman. After the ceremony tho bridal party and guests were entertained at Dustin's at afternoon tea Tho bride’s gift to the bridegroom was *i gold sovereign case. Mr and Mrs George Bleasd left by the afternoon train for Palmerston, the bride going away In a dark blue tailor-made, the semi-sac coat finished with the now square sailor collar, and smart reseda straw hat wreathed with shaded flowers and stiff ospreys. Another quiet wedding took place at little St. John’s Church on Thursday morning, when Mr Alf King was married to Mias Townsend, of Harrison street. The bride was given away by her father, and wore a creme gown, with long creme lace coat, creme hat and feathers. The ceremony was performed by, the Rev. Jacob, vicar. Mr and Mrs King left by the mail train for Wellington, from whore they sail this week for London.

On Thursday afternoon Mrs W. J. Carson gave an enjoyable farewell afternoon tea at her residence. Illverlmnk, for Mrs Walter Jarrett, who leaves shortly with Mr Jarrett for a trip to Europe and the Continent. Mrs Carson received her guests In a gown of royal bine,’braided in black; Mrs Jarrett wore palo pink ninon. over silk, and largo black picture hat. Afternoon tea was served in the drawingroom During the afternoon a guessing competition took place, the prize being won by Mrs Furrio. Among those present were Mrs W. Jarrett, Mrs J. A. Young, Mrs G. Calinan, Mrs M. Spurdlo, Mrs Milne, Mrs James Aitken, Mrs Neshet-Sraith, Mrs A. L. Wilson, Mrs White, Mrs Findlay, Mrs Richardson, Mrs Collins, Mrs Murchie, Mrs G. Carson, Mrs Gage, senr., Mrs W. Gage, Mrs Bert Jarrett, Mrs Furrie, Mrs G. Murch, Mrs Fergusson, Miss Carson, and others. On Friday afternoon, Mrs Haine, Wicketeed street, gave a farewell afternoon tea for Mrs/ R. H. White, who leaves Wanganui shortly. Among those present were Mrs White, Mrs F. Wehb-Jones, Mrs and Miss Luxford, Mrs J. A. Young. Mrs A. Gower. Mrs G, Bullock, Mrs Wood, Mrs J. 0. v Richardson, Mrs P. W. Walker, and many .others At the Horticultural Show held on Wednesday and Thursday, the long spell of dry weather was made very apparent on the quality of the blooms exhibited. The fruit was really a very fine collection, A basket of grapes shown by Mr Paynter, of “Marybank,” was given by that gentleman to tho society for sale, as were also some choice pot plants from Mr Watson and other exhibitors. These were sold by auction, and about £5 will be realised. During Thursday evening a number of items were contributed by the Garrison Band.
