WAGES LIENS

An, anomaly in the Wages Liens Act. pointed out by Mr Sdey, 19 that when notice of attachment is given nndor section 9 of the Act, but no further proceedings are taken by the worker to enforce Ms claim, the employer m such case ia app-iT’eutly entitled to retain for an indefinite Period all the moneys oiling bv him to the contractor. The Minister of Labour replies that the contractor has Ms own remedy aigainst the employer should the latter endeavour by means of this section to withhold an unnecessary ot' unreasonable proportion of any contract-money due. Ho recognises, however, that the section could be improved upon, and intends during the next recess to have the Act, as a whole, revised, with a view < to removing anomalies and inconsistencies.
