FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. PALMERSTON, October 25. The new* factory being erected for tho Bunnythorpo Dairy Company will be ready for occupation in. a fortnight. It will bo one of the most up to date in the district. A special meeting of Court Manawatu was held last night, to consider the proposal to form. a. friendly societies' dispensary, and it was decided to support the piupcsal. The public schools' division at the Alanawatu A. aud P. Show* will be a specially striking and interesting feature (/£ the fixture. About 1200 entries' have been received, and competition should thc-mo-te be keen. The local Chamber of Commerce thinks the time has arrived when a separate police district should be created for the Manawatu,;and a letter is to be forwarded. to- the Minister of Justice urging the claims cf th:- district. The Methodist Dominion and Young People--' Sunday School Convention commenced its third annual gathering today, in the Cuba street Wesleyan Church. The Rev. C. H. Laws is presiding, and delegates from all parts of the Dominion are taking part. Tho meetings will continue to-morrow and Thursday. A new engine-room is being built at tho rear of the Municipal Opera. House to house the electric light plant about to bo installed. A 32 horse-power gas engine will drive the dynamo of 110 volt* 130 amperes; and .suffievent current will Mui-:. bo generated to supply light to. the municipal picture plant and to light the building. It has been ascertained that tbs Toko-maru river’, if harnessed alone, would yield about 3500 hors-e-pnver, and if properly dammed, SOOO horse-power.
