Mr C. Holdsworth, managing director of the Union Steam • Ship Company, left for Sydney in the Manuka yesterday. Mrs Holdsworth. accompanies her husband, and will spend some time in Sydney, where she has many friends.

A most enjoyable dance was given ■ by t.ho ■Wellington Letter Carriers' Social Club at the New Century IlaJl, Kent terrace, last night. There were a great many present, and the secretary,' Mr Couperi was indefatigable in his efforts to make the dance a success. lira Andrew Hamilton, wife of tho president of the . Wellington Bowling Club, entertained tho wives of the bowlers and those who so kindly assisted on tbe opening day at art enjoyable "at home" at the -Arts Club. Mrs Hamilton received her guests in a navy Blue costume and a becoming blue hat, trimmed with daises. ■ Delicious tea and refreshments were' served ,the tables being decorated with bowls of iamemones and pleasant eye naTCissi.
