For i Gospel faitiitullv preached, for unhung in ts to pijmjte the healthful activity of the numerous organisations of the church, for incessant pastoral visitations, for timely and fearless utter ances in the cause of truth —for all these gratitude iva« expressed to Gcd. We assuitd Di Gibb oi oui desne to .cooperate yvith him and to support him loyally in his work, and prayed that in an increasing measure it may be given to Mm to know- that his labour is not in. vain in the Lord." Mr James McKenow moved the adoption of the report, and Air John Boat seconded. Before the report yvas adopted, the Rev. Dr. Gibb, who presided, expressed thanks for the assistance he had received from the numerous band of workers iu the various departments of the church's activity. ' During tho past seven years the church had prospered, the membership having almost doubled. For their oyvn purposes there had been raised about .£6DO a year more than ever before, and he hoped that the foryvartl movement would not soon bo spent. The drift of population towards the outlying districts of tho city yvas going to be a E-omeyvhat serious matter, and maybe St. John's v.ould have to become a kind of central mission, for Presbyterianism in Wellington. Doubtless, however, the future would bring continued success In the spiritual sense, and they hoped in all ether directions as well, Mr Alexander Smith, on "behalf of his relatives and himself, presented to the church three pulpit chairs of oak, upholstered yvith crimson velvet, the gift beinig made in memory of the late Mr James Smith, who had been. a. devoted member of tho church. The family also desired to present an annual prir.e of <£s to the Orphanage Committee, to be expended as the committee thought best. The donors yvere warmly thanked by Dr. Gibb for their presenilation.
