At the Ballarat band contest the Champion Cornet Solo event was concluded at midnight. There were fiftythree competitors entered, but some were scratched. The placed men were:

Percy Code, Melbourne. 84 1 Buckley, Wanganui 82 2 Pheloug, Sydney 78 3 James McGrath, Wanganui 75 4 The judge said the playing had been quite a treat, but the New Zealander, Buckley, was at a disadvantage in drawing last place and having to wait about for five hours for his turn. The Trombone Solo resulted; Welling, Wanganui j 1 Shackles, • Ballarat * 2 Thomas, Victoria 3
The winner was three points ahead,

(Received October 19, 8.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 19. The Quartette competition resulted: Eohuca 1 Wanganui (Northey's) 2 ColHngvvood 3 Wanganui (Buckley's) 1 - Wanganui men were unplaced in the Trombone Trio and Bass Solo events.
