"IHUWSDAY'S COUNCIL MEEIIING. NOTICES OF MOTION. There will be a considerable amount of business transacted at Thursday's meeting of the City Council, as Ulero has been no meeting for a month, owing to the death of the King. lu addition to the ordinary business several notices of motion have been tabled as follow: — Councillor Trevor—" That the city engineer bo authorised to proceed with the remodelling and extension of latrines in Courtenay place, both east and west ends."
Councillor Luke—" That this council recognise that a very considerable portion of the city residential, commercial and industrial developments will extend to Kilbiruie and adjacent district, together with the no doubt early extending of the city's boundaries to embrace the Miramar peninsula; that they are of opinion that the time has arrived when an improved access connecting the city with the southern portion of its outlying areas should bo given effect to, such access to be of a; minimum grado to enable a more speedy I and humane vehicular traffic and provision for pedestrians; that to _ give 01I'ect to this desire the city engineer be instructed to survey route, prepare costs and submit same to the council at an early date, together with such other information and details as he and the council may deem requisite to determine the question; and that the Miramar Borough Council be asked to cooperate in carrying out the proposal." Councillor Ballingei—(l) "That tho council takelifaps under the provisions of the Fire Brigades Act, I'JOS, and its amendments to apply to tho Governor for an Order-in-Council declaring the city of Wellington to be a fire district under the Fire Brigades Act, and that the necessary poll of the ratepayers of the city in connection 'therewith be taken on some day to l*o appointed. (2) That tho council request the Government to amend section 3 of the amending Act of 1308 bv striking out tho following words: 'Shall be deemed to be carried unless at least one-third of the ratepayers of that district have validly exercised their votes in respect of that proposal,' and substitute the following: 'That tho proposal shall be deemed to be carried if two-thirds of the valid votes of tho ratepayers are cast in favour of the proposal.'"
