A YOUTHFUL CHAMPION
EXPERT BIRD SHOOTER
"CEACKS” OF THE DOMINION DEFEATED. fcPECIAL TO TUB ’‘TIMES.” WANGANUI, May 27. The pigeon shooting championship of New Zealand was' decided to-day on the Wanganui Gan Club’s ground. There were twenty-four competitors, and the winner turned up iq. Donald Allan Fraser, the sixteen-year-old son of Mr Duncan Fraser, of Hororata, Canterbury, who hilled 20 birds out of 21. This was the lad’s first attempt at a New Zealand championship, and ho had to compete against the best shots in the Dominion. All shot from the same mark (28 yards), and it was unquestionably a line performance, and by far the best ever recorded by a boy in New Zealand. By his victory he carried off a <£2s gold and diamond medal, a 65 guinea gun presented by the Colonial Ammunition Company (whose ammunition he used), and Jc'Sj in cash, presented by the club. Messrs ■ Stead, Fraser (senior), Price and King divided the second and third prizes, with 18 kills each. \oung Eiaser started shooting only about twelve months ago, and his performance is therefore a remarkable one. Bast Duster bo shot for the Colonial Ammunition Company's Cup, and got a leg in, killing 40 out of 43 birds. , Ho will shortly visit Dunedin, to compete for the first sparrow championship of New Zealand, and as he is reported to lie an even better shot at sparrows than at pigeons lie should give a good account of himself. >
