Mr Augustine Birrell, Chief Secretary, for Ireland, iu a speech at Hoxton, said the creation of peers was the only constitutional method to make the will of the people paramount. However undesirable and ■however unbecoming it would be to create all those peers, it was the fault of the Constitution.
Tho “Daily Express” asserts that tho Government has done its bast to commie a list of possible peers, but is still’ 300 short of the requisite number. THE VETO BILL. TEXT TO BE PUBLISHED NEXT WEEK. LONDON, April 21. In the House of Commons, the Plnkno Minister, in reply to a question by Mr Bathurst (Unionist), said he hoped the text of tho Lords’ Veto Bill would be published next week. The executive of tho National Liberal Federation, in view of the unprecedented number of resolutions from affiliated associations, has resolved to (assure Mr Asquith of tho Liberal party’s enthusiastic support of his veto policy.
