It was during my term, cf office as Chairman of the Charitable Aid Board that the present system or supplying rations direct from the store to the recipient was inaugurated, and nio contract system done away v.ifci, tho.cby saving the ratepayers several thousands of pounds yearly in the levy made upon them by the United District Bc-a d. ■The direct supply system was the means, of the best of food being given to tha poor and needy.
