"When the Wages Board met at Newcastle this afternoon it was learned that a hitch had occurred in the negotiations for a settlement of the strike. Mr Charlton, M.L.A., who had been engaged in formulating the miners’ claims, said that he had hoped to have arranged for the men to return to work ou .Monday next, but he had not sufficient tiriio to ' complete the task. He, therefore, asked the Board to adjourn until next Wednesday, and said lie trusted-to have the men back at work by that day. It is feared that a serious obstacle, has arisen in the way of theefforts ;of Judge Scholes (chairman of tho Northern , Compulsory Arbitration Board) .and oi All* Charlton to. bring the masters and men together. After conferring with the Newcastle mine-owners, Judge Scholes announced on Monday that both sides had agreed to his proposal for the resumption of. work, and that he saw nothing to prevent all pits being in full"swing 1 on Monday next.- ,/ :. ,
