MIRAMAR GLEB. The annual report of the Miramar Golf Club dhows that- the club’s finances are in a very satisfactory condition, the balance-sheet showing an access of assets amounting to £240 5s /d, the cash balance being £l9O 16s Id, of which £l5O is on fixed-deposit, and the remainder at credit of the bank otooount. Tho course is in very good condition, tho greens hawing been cut and rolled regularly during the summer months, and it is anticipated that tho Knits will be in first-class order When tho season is opened. The membership of the club is now 130 ordinary members (70 men and 60 ladies) and there oire upwards of fifty ■candidates for election.
During tho past season the members authorised the committee to elect a limited number of members, with the right, to play from Mondays to Fridays only. Twenty members were elected under these conditions, and the committee considers that the admission ,of these new members has been a great benefit to the club, its funds having been .considerably increased, yet there was no overcrowding of the links. During the season drtter-olub matches were played with 'Wellington (2), Hutt (2), and Feaitfherelton Groit Clubs, but the Miramar Club was successful in winning only one of these matches. The mem’s championship Was won by Mr M‘. W. Horton, and the ladies’ by Miss E. .Gray. Trophies ifoir both these events were presented by the captain, Mr J. H. B. Coates, for‘.which the chib tenders its hearty thanks. The club’s thanks are also due to Mrs Maiciarthy, Mrs Fulton, Mrs Ponsonby and Miss Turner, who presented titaphies for the ladies’ oom'potitions, and to Mrs Firth for a gift of a flag for the olnb house. HETT CEDE.
“Irii .presenting the report for the year ended December 31st, 1909, the committee desire to congratulate the members cm ’the success of ‘an event which forms .an epoch in the history of the club, namely, the first season on its own links,” ,=ttates the annual report of tho Hutt Golf Club. Although both greens -and course wore in a rough state at' the commencement of the season, by dint of hard work and constant playing oyer, the first nine holes have been, got into al satisfactory condition, amid the second nine, aHihbugh still rather rough, are steadily improving. The number of resignations at the beginning of tho season was larger than was 'anticipated, but this has been more than rectified by the number of now members who halve joined' during the year. The membership now dtands—ladies 54, gentlemen. 104, nonplaying 28; .total 186. TIIO expenditure on tbs course has been very heavy this year, and it was round necessary to raise a further £3OO ; this sum was borrowed on second mortgage of tho property on satisfactory tonus. Tho thanks of the dub are due to Mir O. B. Russell for the handsome sent which extends the - whole length of the verandah, and to Mrs Firth. Miss Parsons and Messrs W. Call end or, E. H. Dean and O. B. Trimnell tor various articles of furniture. The dub championship was wont bv Mr H. 'II. H. Balnoa/vis, and the ladies’ championship by Mrs J. Rose. Other competitions were held in abeyance for the year, hut the committee recommend? that before next season commences a joard be drawn up and competitions tarried on os in former yeans.
