MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 9. (Before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M.) CRIMINAL BUSINESS. Alleged theft of union FUNDS. An adjournment was granted until Saturday in tho cases in which William Williams was charged with the theft of various sums of money, amounting in all to £l9O 13s 9d, the property of tho Wellington Industrial Union of Workers, of which ho was secretary. Mr Wilford appeared for accused, and intimated that his client would enter a plea of guilty. CHARGE OF FORGERY. The hearing of a charge against William Patrick McDermott, alias Arthur Threlfs, of forging the name of H. J. Baker to a promissory note for £2 10s and uttering same to William McLean, was adjourned till Wednesday next. Bail was allowed. CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr W. R. Haseldeu, S.M.) CLAIM AGAINST A COMMISSION AGENT. Louis Daroux, photographer (Mr Dix), claimed from Charles Harper, commission agent (Mr Young), £sl 2s, representing the amount (together with £2 2s damages) which Edward George Pointon, of Petone, had authorised defendant to deduct from morb. gage moneys and pay to plaintiff. Defendant had received the mortgage moneys in question, but had declined
to pay plaintiff’s amount of Pointon’s order. Decision was reserved. MOTOR CYCLE COLLISION. Judgment was entered for defendant in a caso in which John Sylvester Leo Ryan, settler, claimed from Howard Murdoch, clerk, the sum of £2O Is, damages suffered at the result of a collision. Defendant, it was alleged, when riding a motor bicycle down Manners street had run into plaintiff. His Worship said that the statement of claim had been grossly exaggerated and that the bruises Ryan suffered were so slight as not to bo injuries at all. Mr McGrath appeared for plaintiff and Mr "Brown for defendant.
