During the hearing of the Sackville peerage case ill the Probata Court* the claimant, Hr Ernest Sackvi lie-West, informed the president, Mr Justice Bighara, that since he was not to bo allowed to retch evidence from Spain to prove that Don Oliva was a bachelor ho must with, draw his petition, though it broke his heart to do so.

.ill- Finlay, for the defence, replied on the whole case and produced a copy of the certificate of claimant’s mother’s marriage in 1851 with Oliva. Tho certificate was stamped 1854 and was found among the woman’s papers. It was alleged that it accorded with tlio church register before thn latter was tampered with about tho year 1900,
