Lord Kitchener provided the troops at Lytton oararp, consisting of light horse and infantry, with a strenuous day's work operating against a supposed force landed from a hostile fleet at Cleveland, twenty miles from camp, and marching upon Brisbane. Expecting surprise orders, very few of the officers went to bed last night. The order to "turn out" came at 2 o'clock this morning, and by 3 the whole farce was on the march. For several hours it was kept busy, manoeuvring over difficult country. The evident intention of the FieldMarshal was to test the mobility of the force, the stamina, of the men, and the resourcefulness of their loaders. TUB AUSTRALIAN OAMPS. Arrive Queenscliffe Thursday, January Gfch, inspect Port Philip defences, may go to camp, in evening; arrive Seymour, Friday, January 14th, this and following day see field operations; return to Melbourne Monday, January 17th, confer with Government in tho morning, afternoon see cadets, evening Victorian Government reception; Tuesday, January 18th, morning Lord Mayor's reception; Wednesday, January 19th, inspect ordnance stores, engineers' storea, and medical equipment, afternoon leave 5y train for Adelaide'; arrive Fremantle January 24th, leave again January 27th; leave Adelaide February 3rd by train for Molßournc, arriving following day; leave by Loongana for Launceston on February 9th; Saturday, February 12th, presentation of colours to senior cadet battalions of the Commonwealth at Government House; leave for New Zealand late on Saturday afternoon, February 12th.
