A soirious collision occurred yesterday dm ring a dense fog in St. George's ■ dhanno'l, resulting in tho loss of a stoamcu- and serious damage to another. Ayrsniiai, which had loft Manchester on Saturday for Durban and Australian poerfe, collided near Tuskar Rock, about sffii miles off the coast of Wexford, Lieiand. In thaee minutes the- Arcadian had founder od, and of the crew of fiftytwo (nxßrtly Lascars) twelve who went below itt- secure their money perished. Tho Arctadian. was a steel screw vessel of 2855 tons, classed 10QA1 at Lloyds, built in 1891 by Short Bros., of Sunderland, and owned by the Ellerman Lines, Ltd., of Surtdorlan d. The principal dimensions wore— Lent eth, 320 feet; breadth, 42 feet; depth, 17. B feet. The Aj-TBhtre, under tho flag of the Fed-eral-Honlcfler-Shire Line, hae mad© several visits to 'S Fellington. She is owned] by the Elderslie !S.S. Co., Ltd., of Glasgow, and wag built i in 1903 at Newcastle by Hawthorn, LraEe, and Co., Ltd., and classed 10QA1 at Lloyds. She is a steel twin-screw four-masted vessel, of 7749 tons, her principal dimssnsaone being—Length, 460 feet; breadth, s£B feet; depth. 31.8 feet. ' An uiicJiiffirted rock has been, discovered wbero the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Papomui struck a fortnighlt ago. The rock is covered with 10ft of water, an»3 is four and a half miles off ] Waterfhou! le Island, in Bass Straits. It is wonderful that no accident had occarred at the rock before, tes it is in Oho direct route of vessels.
