The only New Year honour announced is that of the Begum of Bhopal—the only woman ruler of an. Indian native State—who is created a Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India. Her Highness Nawab Sultan Johan Begum, Begum of Bhopal, G.C.I.E. (1904), was born in 1858. and succeeded her mother in 1901. She is the eighth in lineal descent from the famous Dost Mohammed Khan, founder of the dynasty. The State is 6874 square miles in extent. and has a populating of, nearly 900,000, Her Highness receives a saluteof twenty-cue guns within, and nineteen outside, the limits of her dominions, 1 1
