LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
The Speaker being unavoidably absent, the Hon. R. H. J. Reeves, Chairman of Committees, took the chair at 2.30 p.m. POSTPONED. The Attorney-General postponed moving tho motion, notice of which ho had given, that for tho remainder of the session tho standing orders be so far suspended as to enable all Government Bills to ho put through all their stages at one sitting. MAGISTRATES' COURTS. Tho Magistrates' Courts Amendment Bill was committed. The only alteration made was the addition of a new sub-clause providing that whore a statement of claim or counter-claim is in tho form set out in tho schedule of tho Bill the Court may, on such terms as to costs and otherwise as the Court thinks fit, order that further particulars shall be given. Tho Bill was reported as amended, the third reading being sot down for to-day. FIRST READINGS. The Shipping and Seamen Act Amendment Bill, the Designation of Districts Amendment Bill, and the Land Settlement Finance Bill were received from the Lower House and road a first time, tho second readings being sot down for to-day. Tho Council adjourned at 2.45 p.m.
