, Ui= Excellency tho Governor, Lord Plunket, will preside at the distribution of prizes at St. Patrick's College this evening. The Dunedin Presbytery has granted nine months' leave of absence to the Kev. Dr Nisbet, pastor of First Church,' ! on account of ill-health. Mr G. M. Kebbell (Wellington) and Mr 11. M. Sanders (Hawke's Bay) are returning from a visit to the Old Country by the Tongariro, due early next week. Lieutenant - Colonel J. F. Stuart-Men-teth, Mrs and Miss Stuart-Menteth are passengers en route to Wellington by tho Orient steamer Otway, which left London on October 29th. Mr Edgar W. Walker, manager of the Brisbane branch of the New Zealand Insurance Conisoany, arrived bv the Mahono from Australia to_take charge of tho Auckland office during the absence of Mr Buttlt, in the Old Country. Mrs Jacobsen, pf Tinakori road, entertained a number of friends at her residence on Monday evening, tho occasion being the departure of her brother, Mr Judah Barslit, who is about to commence business in Auckland. Mt It. Semple, president of the. New Zealand Minors' Federation, Mr Armstrong (State Mine Extension), and Mr Dowgray (Granity and Millerton) left Wellington on their return to the West Coast by the Mapourika last evening. Mr Ben. Fuller, of the well-known New Zealand theatrical firm, who has been on a twelve months' tour of the world, returned to New Zealand by the Maheno from Sydney on Monday. He was accompanied bv his wife and Mr John Fuller, jun., the latter meeting Mr Ben. Fuller and his wife at Adelaide.

Yesterday morning Mr Justice Chapman went to Wanganui. Mr Justice Cooper is down on the West Coast, Mr Justice Edwards in Auckland and Mr Justice Williams in Southland. The Christmas or "long" vacation of the Court commences on the 20th inst. and continues until January 31st. 1910. The Supreme Court offices will be closed from the 24th inst. until January 4th.
