DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

REORGANISATION. Apparently the guiding principle in the eohnme of reorganisation of the Department of Agriculture is that as few othoons as possible are to bo transferred in order bo reduce the cost of the work as much as possible. Thus, the supervisors in the North Island of the ral> ihits and noxious weeds work of the division of fields and experiments, Messrs J. W. Doom and D. Rons, are to remain at their present headquarters. The former will direct from Wanganui the work in the northern district, which ■will extend from Auckland to the Raugftikei river, while the latter will direct from Hastings the work in the southern district, which will include Poverty Bay, Hawke's Bay, and the greater part of the Wellington province. In the South Mr H. T. G. Turner, formerly inspector in charge, will still have his headquarters at Christchurch, from which centre ho will control rabbits and noxious ■weed suppression in the northern districts of the South Island. Mr A. K. Blundell is to bo transferred from Nelson, where he has been inspector in charge, to Dunedin, his headquarters as supervisor in the southern districts of the South Island.

The stock inspector at Nelson, Mr T. C. Webb, is being transferred to Hasterton, as noxious weed and rabbit agent; he will be succeeded by Mr J. Harvey, who has been located as stock inspector at Waipuknrau. Mr Phillpott, clerk in the Nelson office, is being transferred to headquarters. Mr 11. Hill, stock inspector at Palmerston South, has been transferred .to Gore.

Messrs Ward and Findlay, two of tho special dairy inspectors appointed nearly two years ago, having thoroughly proved their fitness for the work, will have charge of the districts supplying Wellington. with milk. They will practically act as assistant stock inspectors. The former has been inspector in connection with the city supply for some time; he will supervise the dairies supplying milk to Wcllington .in the Hutt and the Lower Wairarapa, while the latter, who has been dairy inspector in the Eketahuna district will act in a similar capacity in the Manawatu.
