SPIRITLAND VIEWS

ON BUDGET PROSPECTS " SPECIAL MESSAGE PROM MR GLADSTONE.” LORDS’ REJECTION ILL-ADVISED. COMMENT ON THE LICENSING CLAUSES. By Telegraph— rresa Association—Copyright (Received November 1, 9.20 p.m.) LONDON, November 1. Tho “ Daily Chronicle ” this morning publishes an extraordinary “special message from Spiritland,’’ furnished, it is stated, by the late Air AV . E. Gladstone, at Air AV. T. Stead’s desire, through the medium of “Julia’s Bureau.” The message deals with the present political situation, and extends over two columns of space. Air Gladstone thinks “ tho Lords will act most ill-advisedly if they reject the Budget,” and adds: “I am in agreement with the principles embodied in tho [Finance] Bill; but some of the licensing clauses are too crudely constructed.”

Respecting the House of Lords as a genera] question, the departed statesman “ expresses strong antagonism to their predominance, though he favours a Second Chamber.”

In another passage Air Gladstone “ considers Air Lloyd-George [tho Chancellor of the Exchequer] lacks steadiness and balance.”

Air Gladstone “promises further communications ” for the benefit of “ Daily Chronicle ” readers.

A cable message published on Saturday in the " Times" stated that Mr "W. T. Stead had had remarkable conversations ■with Gladstone, W. H. Smith, Disraeli, and other dead statesmen on the present political situation. Disraeli was very cryptic, but added. “ Publish what I say if you like, and people will think you a fool.”
