DAIRYING SERVICE
PEAISE OF STATE EXPERTS.. la. view of the fact tKat tte actions of certain members of the Dairy missioner's staff has been called into question—and this by an organisation ■which has been singular among manufacturing organisations in the Dominion in ignoring the benefits to be derived from” the advice and service of .the experts employed by the. State—it is interesting to have the opinion on the work of the dairying service by a. man . occupying the most important position in the commercial end of the Industry, Mr D. McFarlane, the chairman of directors of the National Dairy Association, Ltd. Speaking of the dairying service to the winter, Air McFarlane said it had been of immense service to the industry, ihe Now Zealand grading system was the best in the world, and it was carried out in an absolutely impartial manner by a very capable set of men. Speaking of the factory of which he is. chairman, the Ballance Co-operative Dairy Company—by the way, one of the most up-to-date and progressive co-operative concerns in the Dominion—Mr McFarlane said that it hud always welcomed the State experts at their manufacturing centres, and it ■was invariably the case that improvement had followed the. expert's. visit. The members of the Dairy Commissioner’s staff, said Mr McFarlane, are thoroughly appreciated by the factory managers, as they are not the ordinary type of theoretical but are keen practical men, whose usual method of instruction is to take off their coats and prove, 1 by the best of all methods—practical demonstration—the value of the principles they teach.
