BALLOT AT TAUMARUXUI. Tho Taranaki Land Board met at Tnumarunui on the 26th inst., and after a personal examination of applicants for sections in tho Mapara, Tangitu and Aria survey districts, opened for jdJotment under . improved farm regulations recently issued, the Commissioner of Crown Lands conducted n, ballot in the presence of tho Land Board, amongst tho married landless applicants. Tho available sections Burveyod into areas Tarying generally from 150 to 200 acres nero allotted to eighty-eight married men, which, with their wires and families, will mean the early settlement of a considerable j

number of persons on tho land hi this locality. The land at present is accessible, by tracks both from Waimoha railway station, and tho WaimohaOngarue road, and is distant from eight to sixteen miles from Waimoha. These, tracks wiJI in the ordinary course bo formed into bridlo and cart roads. Tho land generally is of a very good class, and is mostly covered with forest, with patches of fern and grass, and should when brought into cultivation prove very suitable for dairying and other farmin.EC pursuits. Tho liveliest interest was taken in tho proceedings by the large numhor of applicants present, and thoso fort una to enough to obtain sections expressed their satisfaction in n very decided manner.

It was only in August last thai the surveys wore commenced of two blocks for the settlement of persons on lands under tho regulations above reforrcd to, and since that [lnto 19.921 acres comprising 121 sections hare been provisionally surveyed, tho roads located, and the jpections all allotted. The total number of applications dealt with was 316. and wcro received from all parts of tho Dominion.
