GLEANINGS
The "Lyttelton Times" reports the loss of 9834 sheep on nineteen farms m Canterbury as a result of the recent storm. It is stated that there is every iraiicatkm of dairv heifers being very dear next Beason-thev are dear enough this season, a crossbred selling at £9 10s in Taranaki the other day—owing to the number still going out of the district. The other df» a special train took a load of 400 Taranaki heifers for tho Ta-uranga district. Considerably oyer 2000 heifers have been sold from the butter-fat province to northern farmers this season, and they are the beet that cam be picked up. Prospects of a record wheat yield throughout the Upper Outha \ alley are very promising, and the cold enap wall be rather a benefit, as the_ crops wore oomine on too fast. It is estimated will be about.lso;,ooo bushed* of wheat grown, and if the Dunedin market is favourable, thetro will be a very large surplus over local requirements.
