Messrs Gardiner Bros, notified tho council that they were not prepared to go on with their contract for slaughtering, and at a special meeting of the council held yesterday, it was decided after considerable discussion to accept tho next lowest tender, if in order, Messrs Gardiner Bros, to forfeit their deposit.
