SHOCKING RAILWAY ACCIDENT
PKBSS ASSOCIATION. ASHBURTON, October. 29. Another shocking railway accident occurred this afternoon, -when, during shunting operations at Hinds, a 3 r oung u-ter, John Richards. aged about nineteen or twenty, caught his foot in a block and fell across the rails in front of an approaching engine. The locomotive passed right over him, frightfully crushing one thigh, almost severing a lee. mutilating both, hands, and breaking the man's left arm. The victim, who retained consciousness till chloroform and morphia were injected, was brought into the AshhuTtxm Hospital in a critical and the doctor holds out no hope of ultimate recovery. Richards had been at Hinds only a few months, having been, transferred there from Rangipra,
