INVITED TO NEW ZEALAND. ADVICE ON DEFENCE WANTED. The Government of New Zealand has, through his Excellency lord Plunket. conveyed to Lord Kitchener an invitation to extend his Australian visit to New Zealand. The object of tho invitation. states tho Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. James Carroll) is to obtain the advice of that distinguished authority in. regard to the defence of the Dominion. A week ago it was announced that the Commonwealth Government had invited Lord Kitchener to place his services at their disposal in connection with the reorganisation of the military forces in Australia. Immediately it had been ascertained that the Imperial War Office had no objection To the proposal, the official invitation of the Federal Government was conveyed to Lord Kitchener and was. accepted.
Tho Prime Minister, Mr Deakin, informed an interviewer that it was uncertain when Kitchener would arrive in Australia, us he intended first to visit Japan. If his stay in that country were not prolonged the famous general would probably reach Australia before the end of tho year.
