General Sir lan Hamilton has been appointed Adjutant-General to the Forces-and second military member of tho Army Council, vice LieutewuitGeneral Sir Charles Douglas. ■ In a remarkable farewell order on relinquishing the Southern District Comi.mand, General Hamilton recalls his [efforts to impart to the troops tho pith !of his experience in Manchuria in 1904-5, when he served as military representative of India with the Japanese Field Army.
He had, ho said, endeavoured especially to influence the cavalry against the peace practice of unreal tactics, and also to encourage the artillery to perfect themselves in the use of concealed positions. . Whatever, progress had been realised was duo to the sympathy of all ranks with 1 the underlying aim," namely, preparedness and efficiency for war.
