Stokes, formerly a partner in the Kare-kare Timber Company. tho acting-Official Assignee (Mr Hugh Gerard) announced tho terms of agreement under which Dr Raynor, who acquired the company's bush properties, had undertaken to pay the debts of that company. The Taranaki Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union was held here to-day. Virtue, arising out of the Harbour Board election, tho jury found for the ’ plaintiff, with .£25 damages. Mr McGregor moved for judgment for £SO. Alexander Gray, licensee of the Prince of Wales Hotel, was -convicted of selling liquor to a prohibited person, and fined Os and costs. AN UNUSUAL DEATH DUNEDIN, May 19. William Champion, aged forty-two, who had been ill, whilst suffering from a fit of delirium rushed out of his house this morning, jumped over a bank, and badly dislocated a knee. Two doctors attended him and administered a little chloroform, which Champion did not take very well, and ho was allowed to come out of its influence. The knee was set without an anaesthetic, and Champion died shortly afterwards, it is supposed from shock. NINE MONTHS FOR THEFT HAWEEA. May 19, At tho District Court sittings, Robert J. Clarke, on a charge of theft, was sentenced to nine mouths’ imprisonment.
