A BOMB IN A BOOK
FORTUNATE DELAY SAVES AN INDIAN JUDGE’S LIFE. THEFT FROM A FACTORY. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received March 16, 10. T pun.) CALCUTTA, March IG. A picric acid bomb of great power lias been discovered within tho covers of a law-book which was sent to Mr Kingaford when ho was Chief Magistrate at Calcutta. Tho bomb was so arranged that upon cutting a string a fulminate of mercury detonator was exploded. Mr Kingsford was tho object of tho outrage at Mi.zaffarpur on May Ist last, when a bomb was exploded in a street, killing a Mrs Kennedy, her daughter, and their coachman. When ho received tho book he did not open it, believing it was one he had lent tc. a friend. The hook was left lying about until the springs rusted and rendered tho explosive harmless. The bomb discovered some days ago was obtained from a Government factory.
