In the football match between England, and the New South Wales League team (professional) the former won by 6 points to 5. England scored two tries to a goal and a try. The ground was -very soft and heavy. Messenger did not play. England seoured a try in the first half, after both sides had come near to scoring. In the second half Australia pressed l strongly, and secured a goal from a mark and then a try, which was unconverted. The English threequarters then attacked, and scored a try. Eingland missed two easy chances close upon time. There were 8000 spectators present at the match, which was played at Birmingham.
